When it was launched in 2005, the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class created an entirely new vehicle category – the four-door coupé. Adored by press and public alike, it soon established itself as an automotive icon.

Now, the icon is reborn with the new CLS-Class. Making its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show (2-17 October 2010), this latest incarnation builds on the pioneering character of its predecessor while forging an entirely new identity.
“The new CLS points the way forward for the future perceptible design idiom of Mercedes-Benz,” explains Professor Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz. “At the same time, it takes its inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness which has always been a feature of Mercedes coupés.”

While the latest CLS retains the long bonnet, athletic proportions and frameless side windows of the original, it is clearly a different beast. Surfaces appear more carved and sculptural, with a dynamic interplay of lines and planes. A striking new front section – reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG - features a restyled grille with large central star and distinctive air inlets. In profile, a dramatic new signature line sweeps back towards flared wheel arches and a muscular rear, which lends the CLS a powerful, predatory look.

Inside the CLS, significant changes include a new wraparound dashboard and a range of personalisation options. With five interior colours, five trim designs and a choice of three types of leather, making a style statement has never been easier.

Despite only being on sale for a couple of months, it's clear that the ninth-generation E-Class continues the class-leading legacy of its predecessor and has already left a lasting impression on private motorists and business users alike.

And it's easy to see why the E-Class has received such a warm welcome, the stylish model building on the manufacturer's heritage of producing large luxury saloons and showcasing more than 20 new or refined technical developments. What's more, its supremely efficient engine line-up, combined with innovative BlueEFFICIENCY tehnology, enables the model to deliver fuel savings of upto 20%.

Beneath the sharply sculptured exterior lies a wealth of innovation that takes safety, performance and economy to unprecedented heights, while customers also enjoy exceptional choice with eight engines, 12 exterior paint finishes and a trio of equipment lines available - SE, Avantgarde and Sport.

Blue is the new green

Motorists are invited to literally clean up their automotive act with a host of new efficiency-focused Mercedes-Benz models.

Mercedes-Benz North Yorkshire has recently welcomed BlueEFFICIENCY versions of the A 160 CDI and C 180 KOMPRESSOR and is now preparing to introduce the fuel economy-enhancing and emissions-lowering benefits to the B-Class range.

All the models utilise cutting-edge technology to be as efficient as possible and to ultimately lower owners’ running costs.

For example, the A 160 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY’s emissions of just 119g/km mean the hatchback is eligible for a 12-month annual road fund licence at a cost of only £35. The car also returns a nine per cent improvement on the combined fuel economy cycle.

The C 180 KOMPRESSOR is the most recent BlueEFFICIENCY arrival – offering improvements of up to 11 per cent in fuel economy and CO2 reductions of up to 18g/km compared to its non-BlueEFFICIENCY predecessor.
Now B-Class customers can look forward to BlueEFFICIENCY B 150 and B 170 models, which are due for launch later this spring.

“BlueEFFICIENCY models represent the massive investment that Mercedes-Benz is making on providing our customers with cars that are both environmentally-compatible and more affordable than ever to run,” said Sales Director Nick Coyle.

“The manual SE version of the BlueEFFICIENCY c 180 KOMPRESSOR has an even lower on-the-road price than the outgoing model because its improved emissions of 149g/km reduce its road fund licence costs, while its company car tax band is also dropped from 21 per cent to 17 per cent.”

Christmas Fayre - Mercedes-Benz North Yorkshire

Christmas came early for customers and regional charities when Mercedes-Benz North Yorkshire staged a series of seasonal events in the run-up to the recent festive celebrations.

Prestige local retailers were invited to set up stalls at each location for the Christmas Fayres, which enabled guests to shop for items including fashions, fragrances and fine foods in the dry and warmth of the showroom and without the hustle and bustle of the high street.

But it wasn’t only the complimentary mulled wine and mince pies that put everyone in the festive spirit as the generosity of all those in attendance resulted in hundreds of pounds being raised for good causes. The donations came from raffles featuring prizes kindly donated by each of the exhibitors.
Mercedes-Benz of York’s prize draw generated £400 for Martin House Hospice, whilst retailers and customers also left more than 80 presents for Barnado’s under the Christmas tree in the Centurion Park showroom.

It was a similar story at Mercedes-Benz of Harrogate, where visitors were serenaded with carols performed by local choir Vocalis. Around 20 businesses from the town showcased their wares at the event, which raised £450 for St Michael’s Hospice.

But the biggest donation was made by Mercedes-Benz of Scarborough, which collected £750 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The proceeds were boosted by the Eastfield retailer’s valeting team who braved the elements to wash and vac customers’ cars in return for a small donation.

Market Area Director Keith Hartrick was delighted that the events had proved so successful.

“Around 600 people attended the three events, which was a fantastic turn-out and I hope put everyone in the mood for Christmas,” he said. “My colleagues would not only like to thank everybody for coming along but also for their tremendous generosity in supporting such worthwhile charities – all of which will be using the donations to benefit our local communities.”

The New Generation M-Class - Off Road

Mercedes-Benz North Yorkshire invited Customers to celebrate the launch of the new generation M-Class at the North of England Activity Centre. http://www.noeac.co.uk/

Customers were able to take the new M-Class over an all terrain off-road circuit and experience the Descent Speed Regulator and Hill Start Assist and also see the M-Class in the environment it was built for.

The course layout included steep ascents and descents, water gullies and mud "bomb holes".

Customers also had the opportunity to take part in Clay Pigeon Shooting and Archery.

Driving Lessons with a difference

A group of customers put their driving skills to the test on the race track and the road when they took part in a special event at the Croft Circuit near Darlington.

As part of the ‘Mercedes driving experience’, guests took to the controls of virtually every model bearing the famous three-pointed star including some of the latest AMG versions.

The participants were accompanied around the 2.1 mile track, which hosts British Touring Car Championship, British Formula 3 and GT Championship races, by professional instructors who provided expert advice on the techniques used by McLaren Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen.

There was also an opportunity to go out on the public road with an advanced driving instructor and participate in thrilling ABS and ESP demonstrations showing the cars’ impressive safety features in action.

A pulsating day concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, which saw the ‘Driver of the Day’ award for achieving the highest marks.

Mercedes-Benz of Harrogate Event proves to be a Winner

Customers hit the jackpot in more ways than one when they attended the grand re-opening of Mercedes-Benz of Harrogate.

The retailer celebrated the extensive refurbishment of its Leeds Road premises with a glitzy evening that included the launch of three new models, an array of exciting entertainment ranging from roulette to a rodeo and a ‘celebrity’ appearance from a former James Bond!

Visitors were able to try their luck on various casino games set up in the stunning new showroom and put their driving skills to the test on a McLaren Mercedes Formula One simulator. The racing car lined up alongside the new CLS-Class four-door Coupe and the SLK-Class and SL-Class Roadsters, which were unveiled for the first time at the event.

Any of the trio of new Mercedes-Benz would certainly have made perfect transport for one of the entertainers, whose attendance had guests both shaken and stirred.

Sean Connery lookalike Nick Richmond put people under his spell with his magic tricks and prompted more than one guest into a double take.

Meanwhile the retailer’s expanded 11-bay workshop was used for a rodeo demonstration with a difference featuring thoroughbred performers of the four-wheeled and not the four-legged kind. The impressive visual test uses state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to perform a self-system check on a vehicle’s Active Body Control (ABC) system.

Mercedes-Benz of Harrogate’s new facilities, which includes the region’s official centre for the AMG performance brand, were officially opened by Lord Crathorne, the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.

In declaring the site open, Lord Crathorne said: “This site has been a landmark for visitors coming into Harrogate for the past 50 years and this spectacular upgrade will ensure that this is the case for many years to come.

“The owners have made a very significant investment in this development and they should be congratulated on what they have achieved, which is wonderful for Yorkshire,” he added. “Mercedes-Benz of Harrogate is already very successful and I would to wish them continued success for the future.”

These new car launches will coincide with the release of the new '08' registration and the opening of our stunning new Harrogate Showroom. The finishing touches are currently being made to the building ahead of the commencement of the project's workshop phase.
